An ideal working fluid should have the following favourable properties:

1. Plentiful and cheap availability
2. Non-toxic
3. Chemical stability
4. Non-corrosiveness
5. High critical temperature
6. Saturation pressure should be above atmospheric pressure to guard against leakage
