In 1991, NCR Corporation with AT&T Corporation invented the precursor to 802.11 (original version). This was intended to be used in cashier systems. The initial wireless products were named WaveLAN and are provided with the credits for inventing Wi-Fi.
The Australian radio-astronomer John O’Sullivan with his co-workers Terence Percival, Graham Daniels, Diet Ostry, John Deane, formulated a significant element. That element is used as a by-product in Wi-Fi of a Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) research project.
